  It looks like a decent glass screen protector, but the main problem is that it might be covering the capacitive buttons if ZTE decides to include the capacitive buttons at lower black bar. If the phone is only on-screen buttons, then that screen protector seems to be fine, but if it includes capacitive button, it might not work or cover it, making one guess where the buttons are.

• Well, it's ok if the protector covers the buttons considering they light up. The protector won't reduce the sensitivity of those buttons any more than it reduces the sensitivity of your screen (both will be using the same glass and capacitive matrix anyway)

  I know it's okay for regular glass screen protector or film protector to cover up the buttons, but a colored bezel screen protector... wouldn't that cover up the light, not allowing it to shine through? I never owned a colored bezel screen protector before, so I'm not sure how that will work out. I know regular glass screen protector works fine for capacitive buttons.

• Hmm I'm not actually sure. I doubt the light will shine through the colored part but it likely shouldn't prevent the buttons from working (no guarantees though )

• I came to the site looking for an answer to this very question, but was a little disappointed not to find anything definitive as an answer, or at least I didn't spot anything. The basic question was not 'is there a screen protector in a separate envelope' somewhere in the box, but 'is it possible there is such a separate, extra screen protector and that the phone in the box has one on it when it arrives.' There is the additional question of what kind it is, if indeed there is one on the phone already. I searched 5 different un-boxing videos, and not a single one discussed this issue. Hence, it might be the case that different boxes came with different situations. At first, I thought my phone had one of those shipping 'films' they put on the display to protect it until received. You know, the sort of saran-wrap quality thing with a lip you can grab and peel off easily. However, it was clear that my phone had on it something of a different quality, perfect fit, and (the telling sign) cut-outs along the top exactly where they needed to be. Also, it was not obvious how to 'peel it off,' at least not easily, and I did not wish to damage something from a misunderstanding on my part by wedging my fingernail underneath one of the cut out corners. So, I have had two chats with different people at ZTE USA, and not a lot of joy, to be honest. One said it was a technical question he would pass on to engineering, and they would get back to me (at least not yet they haven't). The second one started out saying 'Yes, there are two, one on the phone, and one in the box,' but then quickly said 'No, sorry, just one on the phone,' so, not even one in the box. Then the conversation got a bit confusing, because I told them all the un-boxing videos clearly showed the 'one in the box.' Now, I am sure the one on the phone I received is not a 'glass' one, because if it was, I am sure ZTE would have made a big deal about providing pre-applied glass screen protectors. However, they could have been clearer about whether this thing on my phone is, or is not, a real screen protector of the same quality as the one in the box, or not. Still a mystery. However, I have to say that so far I have had no performance issues I can tell with the display, but it may be I am simply not very discerning! With this discussion now, does anyone have anything they can add on the question? Thanks for all interest.

• ​, there is only one screen protector in the box. The one that comes installed on the phone is NOT a screen protector but just a factory installed plastic guard. The real screen protector is in a brown envelope inside the documentation packet in the box. People that have left the plastic guard on have been reporting it interferes with the device working correctly, so you need to take that off. Hope that helps!

  That is indeed the factory film (used to protect the screen during production) that you're referring to on the device straight out of the box. It is a little more snug fitting compared to what some of other OEMs use and I can see how it could be confused with a pre-installed screen protector. The true screen protector is in fact in the little brown envelope included in the box.

• Thanks to hollap and sshasan for their input. I will accept that what is on my phone (directly taken from the box) is some form of plastic guard meant to protect the phone from the factory in shipping. I just wish ZTE would acknowledge this fact. My continued confusion arises from two facts: (1) they do not address this at all in the 'quick start' document, or anywhere in the manual, or their website - seems they should tell us to remove this (I know it seems obvious - see (2) below), like first thing in the 'what's in the box' or somewhere. (2) The more confusing fact is that why would a plastic guard or a film slapped on the phone for shipping have cut-outs at the top exactly like the screen protector in the box? And why wouldn't there be some tab or something on it saying 'remove me' or a warning that performance will suffer if I don't remove this shipping cover? In the slightly longer run, it won't matter because I wish to put some better protection on the display (tempered glass or similar, as per all the other discussion - I am waiting for a recommendation I can believe in as currently all the reviews I find on Amazon are from people who received a free one in exchange for a review - not a lot of sales activity as yet, I guess). I am just letting you know the 'thing' that came on my phone fits perfectly, has cut-outs, does not have an obvious easy way to remove it, and does not appear to interfere with 'touch' performance on the phone in any way I can discern. I do very much appreciate your input. I am a neophyte at posting to these forums (as my wordiness probably belies), so I appreciate the patience. I guess it is still a little mystery to me. Oh, also, why wouldn't any of the un-boxing people talk about removing the shipping plastic? I believe I have seen that in such videos for other phones in the past. Curious. Thanks again.

  This is just MY opinion about the factory shipping film that comes on almost every phone I have ever owned. There are a lot of people who keep that film on their screen for as long as possible. I used to do that myself. But then it finally starts to get loose and get dirt and grime underneath it and then you have the moment where you just peel it off. Just my opinion again...

• I read where someone on the Community also left theirs on, and had issues with the screen coming on as they brought it to their face to make a call. Once they removed the film and replaced with a proper screen protector, it worked fine. Maybe that's causing other issues? I know it was on this forum somewhere...

• I took a closer look. While it is a bit 'deceiving' in that the film/plastic has the cut-outs at the top, and seems very much on the screen, I was able to lift the bottom left corner up ever so slightly, and then it just peeled off - indeed, a very thin plastic peel away film. It really was not interfering with anything, but I can now certainly feel the glass display. I still think ZTE or the un-boxing people might have said something, anything, about it somewhere, but I suppose it is supposed to be so obvious. It would have been if the 'fit' hadn't been so good! Already screwed up trying to put the included protector on. Will wait till I get a glass one (which from my own experience seem to go on easier than the flexible kind) and do the bathroom trick. It will be interesting to see if I notice a change in 'touch' performance now that I am dealing with the 'naked' screen! Thanks. A lot of space for what turns out to be a silly inquiry.

• Wait, so this plastic film IS NOT a screen protector? I'm similarly confused, as it's so well-applied, with cutouts for the notification light & whatever that other sensor is on the front. I'm happy to peel it off, though, as I kinda hate screen protectors, and never use them. I was only keeping this one on here until I feel sure that I'm actually going to KEEP this phone (I was mulling over a few things, to see if I might keep it). But I've peeled it off now, and I'm glad I did! Thank you! I'm gonna leave it like this: With the included TPU case, and no screen protector.

• Yes, it appears to be just a thin plastic that peels right off - I did mine

  from the bottom left corner where I did finally see a little bubble, and it

  just lifted right off. The cut outs and the overall 'fit' over the display

  were very misleading to me, but now I see it was just a shipping

  protector. I still say ZTE could have made it more obvious for those of us

  who try to be super careful with a new phone, and want to know what every

  little thing is!

• Flossy Carter did a review and it's certainly not a tempered glass protector. It's a flexible film style protector.

• The tempered glass protectors (at least most and or quality ones) have a plastic layer between the glass and the adhesive so that when the protector shatters the glass pieces won't fall out and create edges, to prevent the pieces to scratch the glass underneath (the plastic film is strong enough to guarantee this) AND to remove the shattered protector at once.

  I've used this kind of protectors on my OnePlus One and broke a few without damaging the actual screen. Since it has a completely flat screen, I can put a full screen glass protector on without edges not sticking. I prefer completely flat screens because of that.
